What Are The Land Measurement Units Used In India

India's Standard Land Measuring Units:

Different terminology are used across the country to describe the area of a landed property depending on the State. It is usually advisable to have a basic understanding of the common land measuring units used in India in order to better grasp a seller's offer, the conditions outlined in the land documents, and to determine the value of land.

In India, typical land measurement units include hectares, acres, square meters, and square yards (Gaj). Terms like Cent, Guntha, and Ground are exclusively associated with the South, but Bigha and Marla are frequently used in the North. The sizes of the units differ from State to State depending on their names.

What Separates A Plot From A Ground?

A ground is a land area with a square footage of 2,400, as opposed to a plot, which refers to any piece of land, regardless of size. The measurement is typically provided in ground area or square feet in the land documents that outline the layouts for the land.

What Distinguishes Square Meter (Sq. M) From Hectare?

The area bounded by a square with sides of one meter is known as a square meter. One acre is equal to 4,047 sq. m, while one square meter equals 10.76 square feet. Agricultural land is measured in acres, whereas residential plots are typically measured in square feet.

Contrarily, hectares are utilized for planning, agriculture, and land sales. A hectare is 10,000 square meters.

Identifying Your Property's Location:

After providing the required provisions for roads, parks, schools, hospitals, marketplaces, and other amenities, a plot of land is divided into residential plots. The layout sketch can be used to determine the number and size of the plots. In the case of a resale property, the Sale Deed contains information on the property, including its location.

Typically, the area of a residential property is given in square feet (sq. ft.). In contrast, the property area for agricultural lands is specified in terms of acres or hectares. You must multiply the available land's length and width in order to determine its size.
